Buncombe County Schools received an Emerging New Technology grant for Oculus 2 headsets for each Intermediate, Middle and High School. A team of teachers, media coordinators and Blended Learning Coaches have designed lessons to integrate the use of VR into the K-6 classroom. Join us as we share how VR experiences are used to provide students in grades K-6 with visual context for unfamiliar geographical locations, cultures, and settings impossible to visit. These experiences help students associate new knowledge to concrete images, physical surroundings and real-life examples. Our session will cover the use of VR Headsets in the classroom to enhance curriculum content using the Blended Learning Models: Station Rotation and Flipped Classrooms. Participants will work in groups to discuss models of how to use VR in the classroom and its impact on learning, review and evaluate lessons that support the NC K-12 curriculum standards and experience the VR headsets in an example lesson.
