Close the STEM Achievement Gap = Design + Fail

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
In this session participants will actively communicate, collaborate, create, and critically think through an engineering design challenge. I will take them through the five steps of the engineering design process and focus on the failure they experience during this lesson. Participants will be given time constraints to collaborate an idea, draw a plan, create their design, test, and improve. They will discuss what worked well and did not work well using the cyclical design process. Then, using a digital platform participants will actively share out what they learned about the engineering design process and share a STEM lesson that they have done with their students. Next, they will brainstorm how they could improve that lesson by planting some failure into that lesson. They will be given more STEM resources to take with them to try at their schools and districts. Participants will actively learn that without failure planted into these lessons, students cannot develop the growth mindset needed to attempt these STEM Careers. Teachers planning these opportunities to fail and learn from that failure will close the STEM achievement gap!
