This session will focus on how curation through Wakelet, a free web and app-based curation tool, can be used to create research opportunities and establish literature circles or book clubs that will empower students to exercise choice and allow their interests to guide their inquiry and reading selections. The purpose of this session is to expose attendees to the importance of student choice in learning, particularly during research and reading opportunities. This session will address the need to increase student engagement in the post-Covid learning environment by helping educators create learning opportunities that enable students to exercise choice, tap into personal interests, and encourage inquiry. Participants will learn how to curate resources that also provide more authentic and meaningful learning experiences. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to begin creating inclusive learning opportunities that engage all students through accessibility features, and by affording students ownership in directing their learning. Educators will learn to curate resources that meet a variety of learning needs and include content from diverse backgrounds. Attendees will take away sample research and reading Wakelet collections that could be used with students to provide choice and spark inquiry. Attendees will also learn how to use Wakelet to create their own collections to present content, guide research, and offer students the opportunity to curate resources.
