Get Your Screen Time Outside: How Our Smartphones Can Help Us Reconnect With The Natural World

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
We hear it all the time, "When I was your age, we didn't have Fortnite, we had Outside." We often fear the known and unknown impacts of technology use with our kids (and ourselves). Frankly, I'm growing tired of anything that starts, "Kids these days..." Our kids are growing up in a digitally- and screen-saturated world. Rather than wringing our hands and shaking our fists lamenting the "good ol' days," let's embrace new opportunities. Let's get ourselves and our kids outdoors, connecting with the beauty of the natural world using their phones as a tool! In this session, Lucas Gillispie will showcase apps and tools we can use to explore that natural world in our backyards and school grounds. Participants will explore a variety of free, exciting apps that they and their students can use today! Along with each app, Lucas will share lesson ideas on how teachers in all curricular areas might use these tools to get students connected to the wonders of the natural world around them!
