Instabook SnapTwik: Building Community Through Social Media

The current North Carolina Teacher of the Year, Leah Carper, is TikTok famous (well TeacherTok famous at least). She creates a community with other teachers through TikTok. Librarians have been building communities of readers through Instagram and TikTok. Teachers can meet students where they are through Snapchat, and catch parents through Facebook. While navigating district social media policies may be daunting, figuring out how to build community and teach using social media can be powerful. As a group, we will develop the pros, cons, and uses of the various social platforms, and we will incorporate how to use them while complying with district policy. We will work together to brainstorm everyone's "next post" and plan for incorporating social media into everyday routines. By the end of the session, everyone should have out their device, working together to become content creators. If there's time, we might even have to make a TikTok with everyone at the session!
