My name is Matt Cooke, and I am the Technology Support Specialist at the Appalachian Academy at Middle Fork in Winston-Salem, and the Appalachian Academy at Elkin. I am submitting a proposal on behalf of both schools, to be able to show our uniqueness as elementary schools, and how we are doing different approaches to learning. Both Academies are considered “lab schools” in the state of North Carolina, with Middle Fork being K-5, and Elkin being 2-4. We are different from a regular K-12 institution, in that we have support from Appalachian State University, with all of our teachers, support staff, office workers, and administrators being University employees.
My proposal would be focused on how our school is unique in its many different ways, such as teaching styles, structure of faculty/staff, and technology usage/systems. This is a very brief description of how we are so unique. Also I would like to bring awareness to the lab schools in NC, among talking to many K-12 educators/staff, many people are not aware of the lab school layout, and I think it should be more known than it is.
I hope that this finds you well, and that you find interest in hearing more about the Appalachian Academy Lab Schools.
Also, this may not be a workshop session, it may be another option depending on what you think would be best to classify as.
