Extending Learning with Hexagonal Thinking

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Hexagonal Thinking is a strategy for considering the connections between ideas and finding the nuances in those connections using the hexagon shape as your limitation. The shapes can include content vocabulary, topic overviews, and skill practice, with an endless list of possibilities for use throughout the year. Participants will learn about a fresh framework for discussion and critical thinking in their classrooms that makes extending learning accessible to all students. In the session, participants will get the opportunity to experience a learning situation with hexagonal thinking, seeing it through a student lens. Then they will have time to plan and build their own, including what scaffolding they will need so that they can use what they learned once they return to their buildings. Hexagonal Thinking is an excellent way to get students invested and engaged in their learning while providing an opportunity for teachers to assess those standards of learning without the high-stakes testing environment.
